Here is another gem that Twerk passed along my way. He was asked to master it for Audibleoddities, and couldn’t resist letting me get a peak at it. One of my favorite IDM cds of 2007 for sure, and self released at that. Based in San Francisco, Retic, better known as Douglas Teike, combines influences from a lot of well known IDM names into a nice pot of stew. This disc is a guaranteed delight for fans of the Merck catalog (Landau meets Deru and Machinedrum). Probably would have released this myself, if things had continued on with Merck. You can track down a copy on CDbaby, and I hear he has a new album nearing completion soon as well.

Will have to track it down then!
I’ve passed along this radio stream link http://www.systrum.net/
to a friend and he discovered this BoC influenced netlabel through it:

A lot of gems…
Cool, I definitely love BoC influenced stuff, and free doesn’t hurt either.
Will check it out ASAP… and Yea, I’ve found a lot of gems through Systrum. That and Merck Radio are all I listen to when I’m to lazy to pick something from the collection.
Got my copy today and i love it! Only poor quality in the manufacturing, packaging. Wet backcover faded colors and a broken plastic cd case. Receiving Merck packages always was a “OMG! It feels like my birthday!” experience. Digipaks nicely sealed, wrapped in t-shirts, sprinkled with stickers..
I completely understand why gift packaging and wrapping is extremely important in Japan.
Hah, yea I always made a special point to make those things seem like a gift arriving. I’ve bought a shitload of stuff that way myself, so I know the exact feeling that I can hopefully provide for people.
Well, Retic couldnt find a label for that awesome disc, so its actually self manufactured and released, so cut him a little bit of slack.
Retic, if you read this. You’re album is delicious and the track “Secret Poetry” will probably save my life one day!
